Sometimes teens/tweens read what their parents read and sometimes they shouldn’t. Many of our Black adult patrons request urban life/fiction. If you aren’t familiar with urban fiction, this cover says it all. These books make Fifty Shades of Grey blush.
Fortunately there are urban life books for teens/tweens. The Kimani Press imprint from Harlequin Teen have a series of books that feature Black teens. If you’ve found yourself racking your brain trying to figure out how to get your “hanger outer” Black teens to read, have a special display of urban fiction books. When the display is over, teens will come to the desk and ask about the books.
