Every once in a while, we have a fandom based program. We usually do a compilation program called Crafts 4 Geeks. This program features 5-6 popular fandoms among our teens.
We always survey our teens because demographics vary. If your teens reveal a fandom that you aren’t familiar with, try to watch at least one episode or the movie or read the book associated. You never know, you might become a fan. I did (Whovian)! If you work with teens, familiarizing yourself with their interests allows you to have conversations with your teens thus building strong relationships. You are no longer that adult behind the desk or in their programs but a confidant.
When a show with a large fandom is beginning a new season, we do a program solely based on that show. Examples would be The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Supernatural. The wings can take 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. You can cut down some of that time by doing some of the steps yourself such as preparing the tissue paper. The more tissue paper they use, the fuller the wings.
This craft costs about $20 (depending on the number of teens)
You can buy wire hangers for about $2/10 or ask staff for donations. Tissue paper costs $1 at the Dollar Store.
